Foundations of TYM for Yoga Teachers

About the Course

The Arlington Center, Arlington MA

What is Thai Yoga Massage?

Thai Yoga Massage (TYM) is an ancient healing art that combines the alignment of the breath, yoga asana, and mindfulness meditation of Metta (loving compassion) into a flowing dance of continuous rhythmic motion to deliver a soothing and revitalizing experience. TYM is based on an understanding of the energy lines and acupressure points present in each person. By working along these lines and points, the modality balances the energetic body of the recipient and frees & removes any blockages that may present in physical, mental, or emotional dis-ease.

A Thai Massage session results in restoring a healthy, balanced energetic flow to the recipient. A session can be complete on its own and may also be incorporated into other modalities of massage, yoga, or personal training.

Details of the Training

Expand your teaching toolkit through a two-day, hands-on exploration of Thai Yoga Massage and its application to yoga teaching! Please note that this is a hands-on experiential training! If you are coming in-person, you will both give and receive the sequence. And, the bonus to receive hands-on techniques from Jennifer!

Designed for experienced yoga teachers. In this advanced training  you’ll learn a practical repertoire of Thai Massage techniques—including compression, traction, assisted movement, rhythmic pressure, and hands-on assists—and discover how to integrate these skills into yoga classes and, especially, private yoga sessions. Through extensive practice, you’ll develop greater confidence with intelligent touch, efficient body mechanics, consent and communication, and the ability to “listen with your hands” and respond to the individual student.

You’ll leave with a collection of practical hands-on vignettes you can immediately incorporate into your teaching to support mobility, range of motion, relaxation, proprioception, and deeper embodied awareness. Whether you want to become more skillful with hands-on assists or elevate your private yoga offerings, this training offers a powerful introduction to the intersection of Thai Massage, yoga, assisted movement, and intelligent touch.

Please note this is not a Thai Massage certification or a full-body Thai Massage sequence. This weekend module is open to the public as well as part of the Yoga of Energy Flow 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training.
